SunPower Honored With San Jose Mayoral Business Commendation
Company Recognized for its Rapid Success and Contributions to the Local Economy

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct 17, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- SunPower Corporation (Nasdaq: SPWR), a Silicon Valley-based manufacturer of the world's highest efficiency, commercially available solar cells and solar panels, today announced that it will receive a Mayoral Business Commendation from San Jose's Mayor Ron Gonzales at today's City Council meeting. The company is being recognized for its rapid success and outstanding contributions to the City's economy.

Since moving to San Jose, the company has launched new products, completed a successful follow-on public offering, and announced greater than 30 percent sequential quarterly revenue growth in the second quarter of 2006.
