Solarpack Dedicates a Photovoltaic Plant in Isla Mayor, Spain
The company dedicated two other plants in Lebrija (Sevilla) and Llerena (Badajoz) last May
Isla Mayor, Seville, September 26th 2008.- Solarpack, the Spanish company specializing in the development, investment, consulting, and services in renewable energies, will today dedicate the photovoltaic power plant of Isla Mayor, in Seville, with an installed power of 8.4 MWp. The plant has been connected to the grid since November 2007.
The energy supplied by this plant will cover 90 percent of the total energy consumption of Isla Mayor, therefore avoiding the annual emission of 5,400 tons of carbon dioxide to the environment. The plant is owned by 70 private investors from different Spanish regions.
SunPower, a manufacturer of high-efficiency solar cells, solar panels and solar systems, with offices in Madrid, designed and installed the solar power system using its SunPower® Tracker technology. The Tracker tilts toward the sun as it moves across the sky, increasing sunlight capture significantly over traditional fixed-tilt systems.
The Secretary General of Industrial Development and Energy, Ms Isabel del Haro and the Major of Isla Mayor, Mr. Angel García Espuny will attend the inauguration event.
José Galíndez, Solarpack Chairman commented: “Isla Mayor’s plant is a superb example of the Municipal Solar Photovoltaic Plant concept that Solarpack has developed in Spain. This type of PV plant in rural communities, of which Spain has many examples, is now being enthusiastically developed in the US and Canada. They are the most efficient and short way to for PV to reach grid-parity”.
Banco Santander has been lead-arranger of the plant’s long term debt.
